Germany are out for revenge against Greece in the UEFA Nations League this Sunday. The match in Thessaloniki (kick-off 8.45pm CET) is key for Jürgen Klopp's side in the battle for top spot in League A Group A2.
Following a 1-0 home defeat to Greece on 27 September, Germany responded with a 2-0 win over Serbia. Despite that, the German national team sits on four points in the group, trailing Greece who lead with seven. "The team aim to capitalise on home support and secure vital early points in a competitive group that includes the Netherlands and Serbia," said Jürgen Klopp ahead of the fixture.
Current Form and Lineup
Germany's form from the last five matches shows room for improvement with one win, two draws and two defeats. The goals in the 2-0 win over Serbia came from Tom Bischof (39') and Florian Wirtz (61'). In the direct clash with Greece, Dimitrios Kourbelis scored the only goal. For the upcoming task in Thessaloniki, Klopp may need to adjust his starting eleven. Last time out against Serbia, he deployed a 4-4-2 formation with Urbig in goal and an attacking line including Gnabry, Wirtz and Scherhant.
Greece manager Ivan Jovanovic, meanwhile, has promised tactical discipline. "Greece travel to Bavaria determined to display tactical discipline against one of Europe's premier attacking sides," said Jovanovic. The Greeks, who drew 2-2 with the Netherlands last time out, will rely on a compact defence and quick counters. A look at the current standings reveals the tight nature of the group. Germany's next competitive fixture is already scheduled for the following Nations League matchday.
