Jürgen Klopp has named two squads totalling 44 players for his first matches as Germany head coach. The new national team boss aims to evaluate a broad pool of talent in the upcoming Nations League fixtures and confirmed Marc-André ter Stegen as his starting goalkeeper.

The squad for the games against the Netherlands on September 24 and Greece includes established figures like Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala and Nico Schlotterbeck. A second group featuring players such as Florian Wirtz, Nick Woltemade and Karim Adeyemi will be assembled for the matches against Serbia and a second meeting with Greece. "I want to get to know as many players as possible," Klopp said. He stressed, "There is no A or B team."

New Faces for Germany

Among the call-ups are several uncapped players, including Elversberg midfielder Felix Keidel and Eintracht Frankfurt forward Younes Ebnoutalib, both of whom have only a handful of top-flight club appearances. Klopp sees potential in them. "We've got a few guys here who will surprise you, but we see something in the guys and want to be there for their development," the manager explained. He added that so much talent had caught their eye that some weren't even included.

The tactical reshuffle follows Julian Nagelsmann's departure after a penalty shootout loss to Paraguay in the last World Cup's round of 32. The final match under his tenure ended 1-1. Since then, the team under interim management has recorded a mixed run of three wins, one draw and one loss in its last five outings.

Ter Stegen Confirmed as Number One

In goal, Klopp is placing his full faith in Marc-André ter Stegen following Manuel Neuer's international retirement. "I've known Marc-André for a long time," said the national coach, describing him as experienced, comfortable with the ball and an excellent shot-stopper. However, he made clear that performance will ultimately decide everything.

While new talents get their opportunity, one experienced attacker is missing: Galatasaray winger Leroy Sané was not called up and will not add to his 80 caps for now. The team now prepares for its Nations League opener, for which a 23-player list must be submitted before each match, with switches between games permitted. The next test comes away to the Netherlands on September 24.
