Kai Havertz picked up an injury during Germany's 1-1 draw with the Netherlands. The 27-year-old forward was substituted after just 30 minutes following a heavy challenge from Quinten Timber, the brother of his Arsenal teammate Jurrien Timber.
He received treatment from Germany's medical staff but was unable to continue, with Younes Ebnoutalib coming on in his place. Felix Nmecha (32nd minute) scored for Germany, with Cody Gakpo netting a late equaliser for the Dutch.
Injury concern for club and country
Havertz's injury is a potential blow for Arsenal, who do not return to Premier League action until hosting Leeds United on October 10. For the national team, the experienced attacker will at least miss the next fixture. Germany are at home to Greece on Sunday. Havertz is a key figure for his country with 25 goals in 63 caps. The current injury list already includes Brajan Gruda, Leon Goretzka and Jamal Musiala. Manager Julian Nagelsmann will have to turn to other options for the upcoming challenges.
Havertz's absence comes at an inopportune moment. The team aims to build on a recent record of two wins, two draws and one loss from their last five matches. The immediate focus is a home win against Greece to stays at the top of the group. The current standings show the tight competition in the race for World Cup qualification.
